Iran will attack Israel if Gaza ceasefire talks collapse: report

World
A senior Iranian security official is warning that Iran will attack Israel if its talks with Hamas for a ceasefire in Gaza fall apart, a report says.  The official, speaking to Reuters, said Iran and its allies, including Hezbollah, would also launch a direct attack on the Jewish State if it believes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is dragging out negotiations with the Palestinian terrorist group.  Only Israel and Hamas reaching a ceasefire deal would hold Iran back from a direct strike against Israel in the wake of the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in late July, three senior Iranian officials told Reuters, but the news agency notes that the sources did not say how long Iran would let the talks progress before deciding to take any action.  ...

Military official says no US involvement in strike of senior Hamas leader in Tehran

World
A U.S. military official tells Fox News the American military had “no involvement” in the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. It remains unclear if the U.S. had learned of the operation before Haniyeh died in an airstrike on his residence in Tehran on Wednesday, after attending the inauguration of the country’s new president. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin could not confirm if Israel was behind the strike nor if military intelligence had warned it would happen. “I don’t have anything for you on that. And we certainly have heard the reporting, but I don’t have any additional information,” Austin told reporters in Subic Bay, Philippines. He added the U.S. government would seek to ease tensions but that it would come to Israel’s defense if the Jewish State is attacked.  Iran’s...

Poseidon vs. Chaac: Mexico 'cancels' statue of Greek god after complaint from Maya Indigenous groups

Mexican authorities “closed” a 10-foot-tall statue of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea, that was erected in May in the Gulf of Mexico just off the town of Progreso, Yucatan, after legal complaints were filed. A group of activist lawyers filed a legal complaint, saying the statue of the Greek god offended the beliefs of local Maya Indigenous groups who prefer Chaac, their own local god of water. The statue and the controversy surrounding it have become a social media sensation. The gods must be angry — or just laughing at the hubris of humanity. NATO takes on AI as the next great theater of war

World
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become the next great domain in the theater of war, and NATO allies have made it a top priority as they look to bolster the alliance’s collective defense. A summit in Washington, D.C., next week will not only commemorate the 75th anniversary of the alliance but will focus on safeguarding NATO in an increasingly hostile geopolitical sphere.  The global consequences of the war in Ukraine have been far-reaching, and the deepening divides between the West and top authoritarian adversaries has had an effect on everything from defense to trade.  At the core of how NATO is looking to safeguard itself in challenging times is change in AI technology.   BATTLEFIELD DEMANDS SPARK AI RACE IN UKRAINE AS WAR WITH RUSSIA RAGES ON A UJ-22 Airborne (UkrJet) reconnaissa...

This desert moss could help support Martian colonies, according to a study from China

World
A study by the Chinese Academy of Sciences identified a super resilient desert moss species, Syntrichia Caninervis, that could help sustain possible colonies on Mars. Even after losing more than 98% of its cellular water content, the moss was able to recover physiological activities within seconds after it was hydrated. The plant can also tolerate ultra-low temperatures. The resilient moss has the potential to kickstart an ecosystem, paving the way for more complex life and even long-term human settlement, the paper said. When subjected to conditions that simulate the environment on Ma...
